What is a day in the life of an FA Rehabilitation Assistant?

• Review daily schedule and travel to client homes and community settings
• Deliver pre-established treatment plans under the direction of an Occupational Therapist
• Support clients with therapeutic exercises (mobility, strength, balance)
• Assist with activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, meal prep, community access)
• Reinforce use of assistive devices and adaptive equipment
• Provide hands-on support, cueing, and motivation to help clients achieve functional goals
• Observe and report on client progress, challenges, and changes in status
• Travel between client visits throughout the day
• Complete session notes and documentation in a timely manner
• Communicate regularly with supervising therapists and interdisciplinary team
• Provide comprehensive reports
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational days; training sessions, and establishing personal networks

What do you need to be successful?

• Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant diploma from a recognized community college, or other equivalent
• Two years of relevant OTA/PTA experience is required
• Knowledge of the rehabilitation approach to client care and the roles of OT
• Experience with rehabilitation services (hospital, clinic, community), pool therapy and/or personal training certifications are all assets
• Excellent computer skills (i.e. ability to work in MS Word and Outlook)
• Great interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work with different personality types
• A valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle
