Qualifications for Success 

  • You have a Master’s degree in Social Work or degree in Psychotherapy with a minimum of two years clinical experience
  • You are currently registered with the OCSWSSW and Ontario Association of Social Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • You are a motivated self-starter with superior technical, verbal and written communication skills
  • You have a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle
  • You enjoy providing community based clinical services as part of a multidisciplinary trauma rehabilitation team, in clients' homes
  • Experience with families and couples work is an asset
 

What Is a Typical Day for an FA Social Worker/Psychotherapist?

  • You will provide assessment and counselling to clients who have experienced trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord and complex orthopedic injuries
  • You will interface with the medical, legal and insurance systems
  • You will connect clients with a variety of relevant community-based resources and services
  • You will advocate for and help clients access community-based resources that would improve their well-being
  • You will monitor, evaluate, and record client progress according to rehabilitation goals described in treatment and care plans
  • You will provide detailed, comprehensive reports as part of the medical-legal system
  • You will maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational days; training sessions, and establishing personal networks

Qualifications

  • Support First Responders: Many clients include First Responders and Public Safety Personnel.
  • Goal Setting & Treatment Planning: Collaborate with clients to establish and achieve meaningful goals related to quality of life and work reintegration.
  • Treatment Plan Development: Create individualized treatment plans using occupational analysis and clinical expertise.
  • Community Collaboration: Work with WSIB, community mental health partners, and other rehab professionals (e.g., Psychologists and Psychotherapists) to support client independence.

What is a day in the life of an FA Rehabilitation Assistant?

  • You will treat individuals experiencing various neurological, orthopedic disorders, and mental health injuries.
  • You will collaborate with supervising therapists to assist clients with establishing and meeting meaningful goals in a variety of settings including client homes, their local community, community centres, gyms, public libraries, etc.
  • You will assist in the delivery of individualized treatment plans based on analysis and clinical reasoning of supervising therapists.
  • You will liaise with a variety of community partners and rehab professionals (OTs, PTs, SLPs, SWs, etc.) to facilitate client goals and independence.
 

What do you need to be successful?

  • Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant diploma from a recognized community college, or other equivalent
  • Two years of relevant OTA/PTA experience is required
  • Knowledge of the rehabilitation approach to client care and the roles of OT, PT and SLP
  • Experience with rehabilitation services (hospital, clinic, community), pool therapy and/or personal training certifications are all assets
  • Excellent computer skills (i.e. ability to work in MS Word and Outlook)
  • Great interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work with different personality types
  • A valid Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle
